Like, last night I was a dollar short of paying an $8 and this bitch wouldn't accept my $7 bucks. Like what the hell lady, I never had a tollmaster actually ding me for being short on cash!

It would be so much easier if they just take cards already smh

Some tolls can be paid with credit cards at the booth. For example, all Ohio Turnpike interchanges accept major credit cards. And the South Bay Expressway in San Diego takes cash but also allows you to swipe a credit card. The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority also accepts cash and credit cards at the toll booths.

You can't use credit cards at toll booths to get access to New York State Thruway Authority toll roads. Cash is accepted at the toll booths, and your only other option is to open E-Z Pass accounts. You can fund an E-ZPass account with a credit card through the Thruway's automatic replenishment billing.

This is also the case in Florida. You can pay the Florida Turnpike tolls in cash at the toll booth, or you can sign up for the SunPass and pay electronically.

The more I see these topics the more I'm convinced the TC shouldn't be on the road.

This was apparent long ago. Driving on the wrong side of the road. Committing a hit and run on a parked vehicle. Speeding, tailgating, not paying attention to surroundings, and running a red light. Speeding at high speeds so much that it damages his car and continuing to drive a damaged vehicle without a care. Hitting another vehicle and doing nothing about the officer taking down the wrong name.

Someday, TC will hit and kill someone or kill himself.

Because they dont have to. Just like how some stores only take cash. Or wont take bills over a certain amount. Or like how vending machines use to not take card a while back...

The reason why toll booths dont take credit cards is because credit cards charge a 2-3% fee for every transaction. When you talk about the millions of dollars that come in from a toll booth, that 2-3% adds up and would lead to places having to increase toll prices just to offset this and balance their budget.

Time and congestion issues it would cause. It takes longer to process a debit card then it does just handing someone cash. This would backup traffic and eliminate the purpose of most toll roads (i.e. a faster route that you pay money to use).

A policy like youre suggesting (for this example lets say a 10pm-6am debit cards can be used) would not be economical to set up the infrastructure to support it. The amount of money that would come in vs how much it would cost to set up is not worth it.

That's not an exception. That's a method of payment.

What is an exception is allowing you to go through the toll booth without the correct amount of payment, which you admitted that you didn't have. It's simple. You pay the correct amount and you go through. You didn't have the correct amount in cash and were denied passage. I don't care if the other operators let you through. That's on them and their failure in job duties. This woman, the one you bitched amount, did her job correctly. You failed. That's it.

And if you did that for every customer, you would be fired the first day for being possibly hundreds of dollars short. And most tolls get a lot of customers, at least at the tolls I've been to. If they let every person pass who was a dollar short, they'd probably be thousands of dollars short, if not more. So why do you think you should get special preference over everyone else?

As usual, you ask a question, people answer and you refuse to listen.

So I'll just give you the simple suggestion of having enough cash on you for something like tolls or try to find an EZ-Pass equivalent in whatever state you live in. Depending on the kindness of strangers is a rough way to go through life.

In my state was tolls aren't paid at the booths anymore. You just drive through and they mail the toll to the address registered to the plate.

Otherwise the ones that are still manned are cash tolls.
