I'm glad they junked the original script and rewrote it, because what they settled on definitely had meaning and some other aspects of being a kid/being a toy that hadn't yet been explored. I'd actually venture to say that 4 covered more fresh ground than 3 did, which was a great movie but really hit about 90% of 2's exact same beats.

It was also possibly one of Pixar's outright funniest movies. I laughed out loud quite a bit -- Key and Peele were a great addition, and the repeated jokes about getting Bonnie's dad thrown in jail were good.

I understand to an extent why people feel like Bonnie "betrayed Andy," because we're so bonded with the cast of toys themselves, but like, she's five. It's okay that Woody fell out of favor for a time... it's possible he would've rotated back in eventually, but ultimately Woody can't be every kid's favorite toy. I think that makes his character's ending even better, in that he embraced that and can now be "the toy of the day" for a million kids with Bo.

Solid entry and I was very skeptical.

Im so glad the villain wasnt another retread of the prospector, her arc was the highlight of the movie for me.

Same. Second I saw her in the antique shop of forgotten toys and relics, I was like are we really doing the same fucking villain a THIRD time? because lets be real, Stinky Pete and Lotso are the same character. She was great and her resolution with the lost girl got my biggest sniffle of the film.

I went in wondering why we needed a fourth film. It more than justified its existence though. Woodys decision at the end made a lot of sense and was plenty emotional too.

My one critique was that in a film that ends with Woody leaving the OG crew of toys, I wish they had more screentime. I know it couldnt have been much longer and there was very little I wouldve cut, but it was hard for me to get as emotional as I think I ought to have over him saying bye to Jessie, Rex, Ham, Slinky, Potato Head, etc when they were barely in the movie. Only Buzz really had any substantial screentime or dialogue.

But yeah I did feel like the original toys kinda got shafted outside Woody, Bo Peep & Buzz to a lesser extent. On that note Buzz felt more like Woodys sidekick for this one which sort of bothered me. Oh well!

This kinda throws the 3rd one for a loop, because you know Woody's happiness isn't going to last. You really feel how regretful he feels for not being with Bo, and him coming to terms with the fact that he isn't in the spotlight anymore, so he tries to live through Forky.

Yeah, I agree that the only real problem it causes for the series is that it makes Andys reluctance to part with Woody at the end of 3 a little more heartbreaking I know Ive got one that one special thing from my childhood I wouldnt want to give away but you know, theres still a case to be made that Woody being one of Bonnies favorites for a month was worth more than 70 years of sitting in an adult Andys closet as a keepsake.
