I think it's justified that he was still arrested because his "prank" forced the cops to come investigate and waste their time and the public's tax dollars. I can see a kid doing this and MAYBE getting a slap on the wrist but an adult really has no excuse.

Yeah. Unfortunately there are too many adults who are just plain uneducated today.

He's going to get off pretty light unlike the stupid girl due to him paying for the ice cream used in the stunt, he'll probably get a few month to a year or two in prison to think about his stupidity.

Tampering with consumer products is a serious crime. Incredibly serious.
The charges reflect that.

Opening this law up to grey area is not an option.
It has a minimum sentence of 2 years, to act as a deterrent. To send a message that under no circumstances is tampering with consumable products okay, no matter how innocuous.

And?
These tampering laws were developed in response to someone tampering with a consumable, killing people, and inspiring copycats to do the same.

This woman posed a public health risk, and inspired others to do the same.
It's especially worse because what she did involved bodily fluids.

What part of "mandatory minimums don't work" do you not understand?

Can you name another case, after the laws were changed due to the Tylenol Murders, where someone tampered with a consumable product and caused deaths?
Because I can't.
Those cases instilled a message in people:
Don't fuck with consumables, or the government will come down like a hammer.

At the very least I've shown correlation, which is more than the idiotic nonsense you posted.

This girl fucked with food. Using a bodily fluid. She inspired copycats. She and her copycats could have caused serious harm.

She deserves to be shown that her stupid "prank" has real consequences.

No, your asteroid garbage was nothing.
At the very least I've shown that after the 1982 tylenol incident, no more such incidents occurred. After almost 40 years nothing similar has happened.
That could be because of the harsh sentencing around the law.
It could be because of the impression that event left on people.

There's no way to know. However, up until now people HAVE BEEN deterred from this kind of nonsense.
And now, we shouldn't be arguing leniency just because nobody was hurt. This had the potential for huge repercussions, and she is to blame for every incident that spawns from this.
