Let's get this out of the way: I'm not a people person (not everyone is), but my job requires that I interact with different individuals throughout my day. Ideally, I want to talk to/interact with the people that I see as little as possible. I just want to get them signed in and away from my station. I don't like when people stand around and try to do idle chit chat with me, especially if I don't know you. If I've already established rapport with someone, that's different. I'll shoot the breeze with them for a bit.

However, I've noticed an exception to this behavior of mine. I find myself being more tolerant, accommodating and friendly toward strangers who just happen to be minorities. I smile more, I talk more, I'm more likely to keep eye contact. I'm just more pleasant in general. I don't like this because I don't know why I do it AND because a person's skin color shouldn't determine how I treat them. Is that what reverse racism is? It sounds like a term that doesn't mean anything, until I recognized myself practicing the above behavior. I suppose it's better than the opposite, as in treating minorities like poo, but... Am I not kinda doing the same thing, just to more people?

Anyway, anyone else experience or practice this type of behavior?

It's somehow racist to not be racist, for some reason.

This is why every once in a while I'll go out of my way to harass minorities. Gotta keep balanced.
