This. If they'd gone all out with it he could have been amazing, his voice is absolutely perfect for it and it could have been menacing as fuck, but they dropped the ball with it.

Only if you don't recognize that the delicate balance of the circle of life means there are going to be winners and losers and attempting to make everyone a winner will just result in everyone starving to death. Why stop at complaining about the hyenas when they also ate antelope who are just as self-aware as the lions are in the story?

Except the hyenas, who are restricted from the same land and not allowed to come in and feed on the animals that they, like the lions, are naturally intended to eat within the circle of life. Instead they have to stay in a barren wasteland.
