Its nothing special in terms of story and character though better than dmc 2 in those regards and the gameplay is still fun. This always made confused as to why 2 in particular got so much praise. It's not particularly scary. It's really easy for a survival horror. The locations/map is less interesting than say the entire city (which even includes some of the police station) or literal Antarctica. It lacks some of the basic QoL features from the sequels like 180 quick turn. And so on.
