With more stringent hiring and training requirements across the board. As it stands now every little Podunk town is allowed to set its own hiring standards and even training standards, maybe we need something like regional centralization like in Australia where policing is mainly the responsibility of the state governments and their state police forces?

Most other countries of comparable population employ national police forces.
