Like that Costco story. If you look into it

Cop says: A large man and a elderly couple attacked his young son while he was off duty, so he shot to kill all 3.

Security Camera shows: He cut in front of a intellectually handicapped man who can not speak in a sample line. So the disabled guy shoved him in anger. The police officer flips the heck out and starts shouting and yelling at him. The father comes over and stands between them both and tries to calm police officer down. The cop shoots to kill the man, his father, and his mother.

Now I am more inclined to believe the security camera footage.

But why is this cop in zero trouble. Why will in the end IF he gets anything it will be a pension which is the equivalent of winning the lottery and never having to work again?

Why does this cop get to kill 3 innocent shoppers and it will not matter?

I propose we make it absolutely illegal for cops to carry lethal weapons.

Detectives, SWAT, FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, Coast Guard, Special Forces, etc they can all continue to carry guns.

Just freaking cops should not be allowed to have guns. They do not have the proper training or mentality to be in charge of life or death situations.

I promise you once "gangs" and "hoodlums" find out cops are unarmed. They will not bother to shoot at cops.

What stupid ass kid is going to shoot a unarmed cop and ruin his life when he can just run?

The better option is just round up and imprison all police, former, present and even trainees. Meanwhile we create a new police system entirely, without the built in corruption that is an intentional feature of the current ones

I would argue cops killing innocent civilians then getting a life like of free pension benefits after cost us.

Because the dead innocent civilians no longer pay taxes. His lottery payment levels of pension till he dies comes from our taxes.

Firearms is just too accesible to the point it's treated like a toy for Americans; cops included.

I know you guys need a gun to protect yourself from other stupid people who uses gun, but banning it from public would solve the issue in the longer run rather than keeping it.

Also F the Police for shooting the elderly couple and their mentally disabled son. I sometimes wonder how do they train cops over there? Any Policemen here mind explaining? Feels like everyone follows the sacred rule of "Pull out your gun whenever you feel threatened by the smallest thing"

I have never ever saw a single Police pulling out their guns elsewhere when I travel just for meager things.

But anyway....I'm not disagreeing with you overall.

Taking their guns away is not the answer....at least, it's a little too simplistic. We still need people on the front lines who can actually protect and serve, and inevitably, there will be a case with armed shooters in a school and the first police responders could have ended it but didnt have a gun.

But there definitely needs to be more training. Psychological training, to wipe out the "god-complex" some of these guys seem to have. New cops, especially, should not have a gun for at least the first year or two. They can ride with a partner who is armed, but itd teach them to approach problems without their weapon being the first thing on their mind.

Anyone thinking every business/company/etc. ever has not had any fucked up shit is seriously confused.

Few years old but ..

local PDs, sheriffs offices, and state police there were 701,000 full-time sworn officers in 2016

And we're letting 50 a year speak for the entire amount of them.....seems odd.

A lot of it has roots in the War On Drugs and our runaway military budget. Gangs started militarizing, so cops did too. Had little reason not too, getting surplus military gear at a discount.

Some of it is the general anti-cop culture thats been getting (understandably) worse over the years.

Some more is just a feedback loop. One dumbass cop kills somebody, the public outrages raising the general tension a cop has to go through, then another cop kills somebody and the cycle repeats ad naueseum.

And some more (and generally these are the ones that started the whole thing) is just due to cops being straight up racist and/or scumbags. Corrupt cops havent been a trope in our movies for decades for no reason.

The 1986 FBI Miami Shootout had a huge impact on law enforcement in general.

The 1997 Hollywood shootout is basically what started the trend of outfitting police with tactical gear and making them paramilitary units.
