Grinding to level up for the elite 4

Amazing how underleveled I am. Truly from awful level pacing in this game

All my Pokmon are only at level 30 with my starter at level 42.

Thats like 20 levels for each Pokmon until I can fight the elite four

I only played HeartGold and don't remember that being as bad. Maybe they fixed it. The grind to level up enough to beat Red, though.

Why not play the superior Crystal?

The level scaling in G/S/C was wack, it had the hardest early game, but then an absolutely trivial endgame that you could steamroll over without any effort whatsoever.

Outside of the level scaling (let's be honest here, it's not good in any of the other games either, just especially bad in this one), it's still the best gen imo

The leveling in Johto was still bad, but they increase trainer levels in Kanto. Kanto trainers were horribly underleveled in the original

The only remotely hard E4 from the first 3 gens I could remember was R/S (not E since you could catch Rayquaza early)

Trekking through caves was the worst part. Random encounters if you dont have repel activated and every fucking prick that wants to run up to you to battle

The first Elite Four are like level 50s right?

Gen 2 E4 doesn't go past the mid 50s but most average at just over 50, so considering the extra levels you'll get from beating them that shouldn't be an issue if you're at the upper 30s. Could always learn to use x items like speed runners use. Or else, buy revives and hyper potions till you have no money left, fight the E4 without using items until you get wiped, buy a few more items, repeat until you get through the first 2 without items and then consider that your clear run.
