Seems like even the animated Disney movies are at least PG now.

G rated movies are typecast as for kids only (i.e. parents sitting in the theater will have a miserable time) and have fewer showings. So kids movies will have the slightest hint of violence or sexuality in order to get that more desirable PG rating.

Which is hilariously ironic because the PG rating was designed to say that these movies might not be suitable for kids. Movies made for kids are suggested as having Parental Guidance. Go figure. And PG-13 is just completely redundant.

The only non-documentary that came out in 2019 rated G that I've heard of is Toy Story 4.

The problem lies with society trying to act like kid-friendly and adults only are the only ratings.

When Gremlins and the second Indiana Jones movie came out, parents complained about the violence. So, Steven Spielberg went to the MPAA and suggested a PG-14 rating. So, now, we reaffirm that parental guidance means parental guidance by stating that a film might not be appropriate for children. And as for the original parental guidance rating, it lost all meaning because (non-excessive) violence, mild profanity, and teased sexuality all belong to the PG-13 rating. So it instead became the dividing line between kids movies which might be acceptable for parents to sit through and kids movies that are happy sunshine sing-along fun land.

If anything, G and PG need to be swallowed up into a singular rating. Just call it E for Everyone like they do with video games. Parental Guidance under 13 might be redundant, but at least it has a suggested age of maturity so that we don't wind up with parents asking why there's violence in a movie which they were forewarned might not be acceptable for kids. It's ridiculous that we live in a world where the live action Grinch movie will have the mayor unknowingly kiss a dog's ass just so that the movie can escape the dreaded G rating of doom.

Not really. Before it was introduced there was a need for something in between PG and R. There were many PG movies that were on the borderline of R, some even containing nudity, while some PG movies were pretty tame. So they introduced the middle ground PG-13 which is usually a little more profane than PG allows but not super explicit like R. Or a little more sexually crude than a PG movie allows. So no, PG-13 was a pretty neccessary introduction and I dont think it's redundant at all.

Now E10+ for video games I thought was redundant. They already had a rating for children's games (EC) and a rating for teens before mature (T). E was perfectly in the middle. Dunno what E10+ accomplished.

Parental Guidance tells you it's not safe for small children. That's like listening to a CD back in the day which had a Parental Advisory Warning and saying, "I didn't know my son's music would have that kind of language in it."

It's silly that you have to spell things out to that degree. If anything, PG-13 didn't need to be its own rating. It should've just been the renamed version of PG. Here, lemme spell it out for you, parental guidance means don't bring small children. And, yeah, I miss the moments of brief nudity afforded by the PG movies of old. There were nice, but somehow a bare ass or an exposed breast became the greatest of all evils.

PEGI's rating system is less stupid, use that instead.

Mainly because G used to allow for minor "inappropriate" content. When they started publishing reasons for ratings along with the ratings themselves, anything with any type of advisory got a PG rating at minimum.
