If people can have a mismatch between the mind and body, its only logical to think that such a thing could occur with animals too. Is there any way we could tell if an animal is transgendered or not?

Maybe, but its not like its something animals would have to consciously understand for it to still be possible. They could have the genitalia and build of one sex while having a brain that more closely resembles that of the opposite sex. They just wouldnt be able to fully comprehend the mismatch like people can.

Thats true, but Im really wondering more about animals that would be transgendered in a way thats parallel to humans, not those that can change at will or based on environmental conditions

Don't forget those ones where small males pretend to be females so they can get in close and reproduce

Or those saber fencing ones where the loser loses their dick and becomes a female who will soon lay eggs

You'd have to prove animals have the ability to percieve the concept of gender to begin with.

Most animals don't even have a concept of self awareness for something like gender to spawn from.

Animals for the most part dont even have complicated emotions like guilt and pride. Gender and gender roles arent the same for humans, but to an animals more simplistic mind they might as well be, so any animal that behaves in the role the opposite sex does would be the human equivalent of transgender. And also, environmental conditions and changing at will arent exceptions. Humans dont have them currently but if there are rays or mutations that can change the brain or the body found in the future that would also be transgender. Actually, in the tvtropes page I listed, 5-ARD counts.

Interesting points, and largely along the lines of what I was thinking originally. I just wonder if theres any known examples or research that has been done in the area.

If a human can be transgender, I'm not sure why an animal can't.

The thing is, I am only aware of research on bisexual/homosexual animals. Since you can't ask animals questions about how they feel in their body, we'll never know anything about transgenderism in them... well... unless we can find a brain structure basis for transgenderism in humans. Then maybe we can look for it in animals. But that hasn't been nailed down in humans so, I don't think there is any research in animals yet.

Yeah, I know its tougher to explore in animals since they cant talk about it lol. I thought maybe they could do some sort of brain scans or behavioral tests to see if those matched up with their sexs typical behavior/scans or something like that

Yeah I've changed my mind on the idea a bit. Some animals can communicate. Think birds.

There are several birds that decorate their nests with collected baubles that are gender specific. It might be possible for this to be tested with to see if there are any birds that attempt the other gender's displays or something like that. It might be extremely rare to find though.

That isn't what gender is, but still probably too advanced for other animals.
