"Can't run" is just a lazy cop out from lazy developers or greedy, 0 effort pubishers. The SNES/Genesis had very, very decent versions of arcade games such as the street fighter 2 and mortal kombat series. Were they exact, pixel-by-pixel ports? Fuck no. Heck, even the humble 8 bit game gear had a fairly decent port of Mortal Kombat 2. "Can't run" is a poor excuse. The dragon quest builders 2 people threw a hissy fit because they Switch couldn't handle a straight port and threw heir hands up in the air.
