I don't live in Europe or follow European news, so I don't know what's going on. I've been hoping that it would turn out to be an absolutely disaster to the degree that it couldn't be ignored by politicians and would have to be revoked.

Countries have to change their laws to be in line with the directive, for the directive to effect people. As far as I'm aware no country has done so. They have until 2021 to do so.
