Im curious to see if my idea is original or not. Posting this here too.

Essentially the premise is that theres a superhero that, overtime, has grown corrupt/fascistic but because hes basically Superman level invincible, no one tries to stop him. Until the actual hero of the story does, which reveals that the superhero was a sham all along and never had powers.

The idea would be that because the "city" was having such horrific crime problems that one random person successfully and publically standing up to a criminal caused mass long term psychosis, leading to that person being seen as a superhero. And naturally that person would take advantage of it.

I would also imagine much of the story being the lead up to this reveal (where the super guy gets blocked by the hero then gets stopped mid "flight". Ala Hela stopping Mjolnir or Spidey stopping the one dude in Endgame) and then the heros struggle between keeping the illusion alive for the sake of the city or breaking it or perhaps just struggling to break it at all, leading him to assume the mantle of the super.
