Current Events > so i have read few of junji ito mangas. they seem to be overrated

alot of these are just famous because of their grosteque art. most of the time, the story are pretty bland, to downright ridiculous and things happens just because of their shock value. while i agree, art wise like the body horror and all the unsightly stuff are drawn really well, it doesn't really have anything else to add.

the one shots are the best. that story with the hole and my favorite the human chair is great. everything else range to meh to just straight up bad.

the longer one, i only read uzumaki. the quality went to good to just wtf (in a negative way) in the end. the first few chapters are the best where the scale was still individual that it represent the character's obessions or traits that went spiralling out of control, but around the mosquito chapters and snail chapters it became kind of ridiculous. the characters actions don't make sense and they should abandon the town long ago.

after the hurricane chapters it just went downright ridiculous not in a good way. the ending is meh, but i do like the lovecraftian inspiration.

Yeah i really find the shorter stories just better.

Soem are meh, like that thing that washed ashore and the people that fly and drop no reason.

It just dont make sense.

The best ones are those with contained story and more grounded or focus more on characters like the chair one.

Its kind of like the scary stories to tell in the dark. The stories themselves are more silly than amateur creepypasta but the artwork is pure nightmare.

yeah. the art is amazing. the writing itself, meh.
