What about Vita? I've been looking into this game for a while. Thought it was on it.

Is it good if I like Ys and to a lesser extent Persona?

I can't really speak for Ys, but I think it's better than Cold Steel 2 and almost as good as Cold Steel 1, if that means anything to you. Not as busy as Persona for sure, but there's a connection. Combat is more like Ys from what I've seen.

Guess I'll get it and it can sit with all the other RPGs I'll eventually play. Probably.

Also is there a way to sort on the playstation store by genre? I know they used to be but now I can't seem to find it. I'm using the website version not in console

EDIT: Found it. Seems it only shows up for PS4 full games and if you access games on other menus like Games > PS4 it doesn't show up.

Is that price for Persona 5 of $14 the cheapest it has been too?

Probably, but that's basically just being priced to clear since it's obsolete.

In what ways is it better than cold steel 2?

Is it good storywise, world building wise, characterwise?

I'm honestly tempted by this just trying to figure out what it's strong points are

While I think Cold Steel 2 is a great game, that's more me thinking that it has a lot of slog midgame and an ending that drags hard. Xanadu doesn't have those issues, so I think it ends up better it the characters and pacing department, even though they're obviously not as much investment.

Yes.

Cold Steel is the obvious comparison point but if you don't have that...

The combat is basically proto-Ys VIII. It doesn't have the depth of mechanics that Ys VIII had but it comes off like a rough draft of it. Meanwhile, the bond point system is similar to Social Links from Persona as is the whole "school setting where a group of students explore/investigate an otherworldly place" thing.

It's damn near a fusion of those two series.

I think a CS2 comparison is a bit tough to on some of those fronts because CS2 has the advantage of 6 games before it so like... it's almost cheating. I like the characters and story though. World-building is neat too but you can't really compare it to Trails.

It's basically Cold Steel meets Persona with guest star Ys.

Sounds like it's worth a $12 risk.

Swapping Cold Steel with Sky is a bit less accurate but I suppose Persona still covers a lot of what you lose in that swap. Like TX is still bringing the Trails NPC experience so Sky works for that comparison.

Haven't played Ys I myself though so I can't really say there! Though TX doesn't use the bump system lol.

it's not really like sky at all. it's only superficially like cold steel in that it's kinda structured the same (and like many other modern, small-scale jRPGs)

and blatantly recycles the assets falcom had lying around from it
and the "orbment" system with quartz

I'd say it's a bit more than superficial with Cold Steel. Sky, sure, but it's basically taking Cold Steel and setting it in modern Japan. You lose the continuity with the Trails series, which I'm not downplaying because the interconnectedness of that is a huge appeal for people, but Falcom clearly wanted to make more use of what they built there and made another game with it.
