There is such a thing as too many options at once.

I think it's about time the series incetivized growth instead of hoarding exp.

Don't overwhelm people in the process. That's what this system is doing.

I personally love it, because it means my next playthrough can be different even if I'm using the same units. Although I had to change some plans at the start of the game since the guy I planned to make a Dark Mage had a bane in Reason. The only thing I don't like about classes in 3H so far is that some of them are back to being gender-locked. Oh and that neither Griffon or Kinshi Riders made it back.

I have mixed feelings about it. In a game of this scale, having depth in systems is a necessity to keep people coming back for more.
But there are concepts that could use more explaining, like
- each class has a unique skill if you get into enough encounters with it
- only one beginner class can use magic, even if you could use it before promotion

That's what that class mastery thing is. For the basic classes you start with, if you master those classes (which most characters end up doing) you get a 5 HP bonus. Other classes offer different advantages, but you have to stick with them before promoting.

Most of the reclassing doesn't even make sense because they don't give characters enough growth to fit them properly

I tried making Mercedes a cavalier and she became useless because she'd never get STR on any level ups, instead she'd still grow as if she was a priestess

Yeah, you'll get passives/abilities from Classes as well that you can equip on another Class.

For example, Archer will give you the [name?] Skill which lets you counter at 1 range, or another one that adds 1 to your bows Range. Then you can add those on to your Thief with a Bow once you switch to that

I get your point, but I'm happy that the Characters have natural growth rates and it's not 100% on which Class you're using. If it was just simply which Class you're using, then everyone would end up the same

But I do get the appeal of that
