Basically, there are 8 hours (ex. 11AM to 7PM) a day where I can eat. During that time I can only eat ~1400-1500 calories. After that, I can only drink water (or anything with minimal calories).

Wish me luck!

Good luck. I do it too, even after losing the weight. Keeps cravings in check.

Yeah, that's what the diet seems like to me too hah, but hey it gives results.

My breakfast never did me any favours anyways. It's all sugary cereals aand gluten and grain and... So much bad stuff!

Basically! Fasting for 16 hours sounds hard at first blush until you realize you're sleeping for half that time.

I don't mind not ordering, as long as the restaurant's okay with it.

Is it for weight loss? You could just be mindful about what you eat and hit the gym to achieve similar results. Fasting just seems weird to me because it's natural to eat when you're hungry.

Yeah, it is. Part of it is just to get me used to the feeling of hunger. I feel like I'm conditioned to reach for food when I get hungry, when naturally feeling hungry is supposed to be normal.

I really, really need to join a gym, though. I just need to go with some of my friends that go to the gym. Need to convince them to, like, show me the ropes I guess? At least, show me how not to hurt myself.

uh, pretty sure for true 16/8 intermittent fasting, you're not supposed to get any calories outside of the 8 hour window. i've heard some bunk about how it's supposed to make your body go into starvation mode or something and burn more calories. that's how a buddy of mine who got caught up in the fad explained it to me, anyhow.
Yeah, I guess I should have said '0 calories'. Like, I've heard black coffee is okay too, so it's mostly water and black coffee in the morning for me for the next few months.

Yeah over indulging is a problem, but being hungry to the point where your stomach starts to hurt isn't good either. If you just look into nutrition a bit and hit the gym I think you'll feel much better over all. I doubt your friends would mind showing you the ropes, but youtube videos also helped me a lot. I have always gone alone and at first felt super intimidated like I didn't belong there, but I watched videos on form and routines and felt pretty comfortable in not much time at all.

I've been doing this thing where I eat a small 'meal' every 2 hours until I hit my daily calories. Along with my exercise (yoga, bike) it's really ramped up my metabolism.

I have a friend who has been melting away the pounds doing intermittent dieting. Good luck!

This was the reason for my flippant response. It seems like a vehicle for a healthy diet rather than a healthy diet in itself. I get how skipping a meal could help reduce your calorie intake but I much prefer to eat smaller more nutritionally dense meals with a good exercize schedule and not feel like shit for half the day.

If you're only taking in 1400 calories a day you should lose weight regardless of your IF. Still, the theory is that you'll force yourself into burning more fat because you're not using carbs that you just ate.

You may also want to fit in some heavy lifting to maintain muscle mass and burn a few more calories at rest in between sessions. IF makes some people too weak to get their proper work out though so your results may vary.

Whatever you go with, good luck!

I just need to reinterpret what I consider 'hunger.' Like, up until now whenever I feel my stomach as 'empty' (which probably isn't even *actually* empty), I would eat. I think that's not how it should be, and that we shouldn't start eating at the first sign of discomfort from being a bit hungry.

I don't mind black coffee as much. It really depends on the roast you get. If you're buying pre-ground coffee, or cheap beans, it's gonna taste bitter and horrible. That's good coffee for cream and sugar. The more expensive the bean, the more flavour you get out of it.

I have some very nice coffee that I love the taste of black. I also have some shitty coffee that I can't stand black. You would be amazed what $10 price difference makes in the taste of coffee. Of course, for a drink, that's expensive for some people. But $10 stretched over a month (or more) is fine to me for the benefit of being able to drink it black. Basically, I spend $10 and (assuming 1 cup/day) I save 125*30 = 3750 calories. That's good enough value for me.

I totally get it. I think the most important thing about a diet is that its sustainable even after you finish the diet, or else you'll just gain all the weight back. I just generally dislike breakfast though, so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to continue this diet when I hit my target weight.

Good luck, TC!

I do IF combined with Keto and it's changed everything about how I think of food in all regards. 8/16 IF isn't bad as it's mostly skipping breakfast. After a couple of weeks, I went down to 6/18. Then down to 4/20. I realized I was making myself eat twice in that time period simply because "I had to." Moved on to OMAD after that and my one meal a day works great. I get all my calories, but I don't have the urge to snack or get cravings which lead to bad food choices over time.

OMAD sounds ridiculous and I remember scoffing at the idea of it two weeks before I tried it. Haven't looked back since.
