I've been working at the same place for like three years now and I've grown to hate it pretty badly. No one appreciates how great I am at my job. It sucks. I wasn't looking for a new job really but a place close to me is having open interviews so I figured why not?

Anyways, how is an open interview different from a regular one? I've only done a handful of those and they never seem to go well, so I want to be prepared. Also do you really need three references or whatever? Looking over my resume that I haven't updated in 6ish years and I can't really use the people I had back then, but don't know who else to put.

I haven't had to supply references in six years over four jobs. It depends on the company. One guy tossed my resume into recycling during the interview because he said it isn't needed.

I'm right, as expected.

Id recommend updating your resume, if its six years old...

Good references are like an insurance policy. They help add a little peace of mind when you're against all odds.

The only thing I need to put on it is my current job, since it was my first one. Also I should point out that this place is a distribution center, so entry level positions probably consist of carrying boxes around and so on, nothing major.

Ive only been to one open interview all they did was get me to write down my name and then told me to come back at a later day and time for a regular interview.

Well I hope they don't do that to me, I took a vacation day to go in there tomorrow and I don't really have many more.

It was walmart. And you already had to have a application put in. I took it as a they where too lazy to filter through applications and pick up a phone and call them to set up a interview.

My brother in law went to a few of these. Every one was to set up an interview at a later date, as they were just basically to eliminate certain people on site.

For example: he said one went to, two showed up visibly intoxicated and plenty completely inappropriately dressed; very tight/revealing clothes or wearing stained and torn clothing intentionally

I had to google "open interview" and it sounds like a casting call (which is probably an inapt term, but I'm not sure what the fuck mods find offensive now). That kind of a scenario that... well, idk, barely feels like an interview at all. It's the kind of shit I would expect to do while in high school and looking for a summer job where I'd just show up and talk to the owner.

Oh. Guess that kinda makes sense that they'd run things like that. I do remember when I was in college I once applied for some kind of a warehouse job like that where it was a group of applicants being given the tour and asked a few questions. I think they wanted more overnight guys, which conflicted with my schedule for whatever reason.

Yeah, the concept kinda sounds like a career fair.

Damn, I was hoping to get something going on, but it sounds like I shouldn't get my hopes up. I mean the job I have now pays decently, and I think I can stick it out for awhile longer if this becomes too much of a pain to pursue. Really the main reason I even wanted to get a job there of all places is because it's like a 5min bike ride from my house, as opposed to the 35min one I do daily now.

The warehouse is a game distributor, the reason the banner they had up even caught my attention was because it had a castle and D20 on it. I think it's obvious that I should rent a suit, of armor, and a claymore before I head over there.

That does sound immensely convenient. I think the shortest commute I've ever had -- other than telecommuting -- was an 8-minute one.

Rent? You mean you don't own a suit of armor? Tsk, tsk! At any rate, toss a tie around it and you'd give a whole new meaning to business suit.

Never rent those. You need to buy one. Well, you should make everything. But if you cant, have a trusted blacksmith make you a set...

Yep, I was one of like five people actually dressed for a job interview, most people were in trashy "casual" clothes. It was pretty annoying actually seeing people so incapable of putting in even the slightest bit of effort. Good for me though.

The interview was a full one I'd say, and I did really well on it. I think before now I always got nervous because I knew my resume was awful and everything would fall on my performance during the actual interview. That wasn't the case this time so I was able to relax, and yeah the application they had me fill out basically made my resume redundant to the point I only handed it over as a formality.

I'm thinking I'm in there.
