Chances are they were already hemmoraging money, and they springed the ad campaign in the hopes of recouping any of their losses. Even if they go under, their ad campaign gave us people who threw their razors in the toilet to show what they think of Gillette. They were questioning whether the decline in sales was definitively caused by the shitty ad campaign (like you claimed), and thats still a dubious claim right now.
