I'm genuinely curious. We've got a lot of "Trump's an idiot for blaming xyz" or he's an idiot for not taking action. But not any suggestions on what to do.

So what would you do to try to resolve or start to resolve this issue?
I'd just opt for a team of psychologist and sociologists to research it so I can try to get an understanding.

well at the very least i'd speak to my supporters and try to run back some of the crazy rhetoric he's been spouting. Remember when one of his supporters shouted out "SHOOT THEM" at his rally and he chuckled? He needs to man up and be a leader right now.

This isn't what I would do as someone who's legitimately interested in dealing with this problem, but if I were Trump specifically trying to protect my own interests, I would take that 250 mass shootings number that's being floated around which includes gang violence and create an infographic of where the violence is occurring and who is conducting the majority of it. Since gang violence takes up the vast majority of that number, you're going to create a graph it makes it look like it's overwhelmingly minorities in Democrats stronghold cities that are committing mass shootings. Then I would make the case that the best way to reduce the number of mass shootings in the country is stronger law enforcement in cities that are resistant to police presence.

If the question you're asking is what would I do as president, and not what would I do if I were Trump, I would reluctantly accept the reality that no law is going to get through without NRA participation and then work with them to craft updates to gun laws in terms of identifying at risk candidates for large weapon purchases, which may include something like a mental health screening as part of the background check, or different age restrictions on weapons based on category. Whatever it is, it would have to be somehow tied to their horrifyingly bad ratings system so that you could get Republican support on the grounds that they need to vote Yes on it to maintain an "A" rating from the NRA.

Of course, I would much rather the NRA be completely unable to Lobby like they do, but while I would personally push hard to further restrict lobbying, that isn't something that would fix this situation in this moment if it had already occurred.

Lol. The citizens have no chance againt the government if the gov went serious. Any resistance would be crushed in days, if not hours.

guerilla warfare is a thing. remember when we steamrolled the vietnamese with our big tanks and fancy helicopters...oh wait. also this kind of thinking always assumes that soldiers would be willing to kill/imprison their own friends and family, which would never happen. the military would soon rather implode before crushing a real uprising.
