Hans goes to a French Farm that has been harbouring a Jewish family for probably a considerable amount of time. Since that part takes place in 1941, it could even be close to a year.

And that fucker is able to convince the French farmer to reveal their location himself, all the while switching to a language the Jewish family wouldn't be able to understand.

The opening scene is up there with the best scenes in all of cinema, and the bar scene isn't far behind it.

Its a pretty good scene, Tarantino nearly ruined it with the pipe gag, though. Like theres on the nose and then theres on the nose, my guy.

What of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, though? Kill Bill isn't bad, either, but it belongs in no greatest lists, sure.

Come on man. It took a scene that was tight with incredible tension and turned it into a visual gag with the subtlety of a brick. If it had been literally anywhere else in the film it would have been fine, but it was completely out of place in that scene.

I watched it in theater with two Frenchman and a German.

The fact that Tarantino made such an intense and powerful scene with virtually two unknown actors shows you he's one of the best in this generation.

But I think the lunch scene in the French restaurant with Landa & Shoshanna was much more powerful. The music that hits when he enters the room and the look on her face while she has to sit there and share a meal with the man who gleefully executed her family (including children). And that release of emotion/tension she gives after he exits the restaurant was insane.

I mean its purpose was to be a bit of comic relief because as you said there was incredible tension. So they had a bit of relief, then built the tension back up again. I didnt think it was out of place. It was also kind of a thing where the farmer was smoking his pipe and it made him feel I guess, like he had the home field advantage. Then Hans busts out that thing and is like "yeah buddy, you really don't because I'm who I am".
