Buying a bullet proof backpack seems a bit extreme, even though these shootings happen a lot in America, it still is very unlikely to happen to a specific person. Plus these backpacks don't protect against assault rifles, just handguns. It's a waste of money for false sense of security.

Imagine living in a country where knowing this comes in handy.
Also imagine it not being at war.

Unless your kid is small enough to fit into a backpack I don't see the point.

I remember seeing a video of a school having bulletproof bunkers in the class room and those that didn't they started doing drills where they make the kids huddle together holding their backpacks in front of their face.

We're fucked as a society when they're doing things like this think it'd stop a bullet, at least the bulletproof shelter inside the classroom actually could protect lives group huddling with your backpack just makes it easier for the shooter

Not only that but it's also a huge waste of money on a product that will NOT protect them if they need it to, it's one thing to market a product that works when exploiting tragedy but it's a scam when the product will NOT stop rifle rounds.

I can't help but feel there's a difference between two nations at war and taking life saving measures from the world's deadliest weapon to having to buy a backpack because any idiot off the street can walk onto any campus and take countless lives.

@sondast

The bullet proof backpacks usually are not using plates that stop rifle rounds, last I saw on the news the ones that were being advertises were only able to stop handgun/pistol caliber rounds.

If they actually are making bullet proof backpacks that stop rifle rounds then great but that is not what the advertisements I saw were selling.

Oh, I haven't seen any ads/commercials so I didn't think about that, but sadly I'm not surprised.

The other issue is weight, usually armor/kevlar/plates that are able to stop rifle rounds is thicker, and heavier because it must be able to absorb the kinetic energy without penetrating. Hell even if it does not penetrate the armor it can still leave you with cracked ribs and other injuries if you don't have material/pads/a layer to prevent injury from the force of impact.

There is a lot that goes into it, and if you get a cracked rib that punctures something in your body you might still be in serious trouble.

It is a huge waste of money buying a bullet proof backpack, it's fear mongering, and trying to profit from fear.

Really fucked up that some entrepreneur gets to profit from the general fear of someone's kids getting killed in a school shooting.

Fear sells, and passes feel-good laws. We have thousands of gun laws on the federal and state level, but the same exact crowd keeps saying gun control this, ban that, ad nauseum thinking we're some sort of lawless free for all warzone.

The problem with gun control laws and why people feel we aren't doing anything, is that gun laws attack the symptoms, and not the causes.
