I wanted to like that game, but it seems to look at Minecraft and go "Hey, people like this building game with survival mechanics, so we should make one of those too". Except they hamstrung the building and up'd the survival/combat, which is the exact wrong direction to go in my opinion.

I tried to play it a couple different times over a long span (I think multiple years passed between my attempts), on the assumption that maybe I'd appreciate it more the second time, but I think I wound up liking it even less. My first time through I beat the first few major boss monsters and started leveling up my gear before I reached a point where I was like "So this is all there is, then? Just an endless grind of forging and fighting?", but my second time I didn't even make it that far.

Half the appeal of Minecraft for me is throwing it into peaceful mode and just building elaborate projects. The monsters are generally just an annoyance rather than something I want the entire game to be built around.

Ahh I have it on PS4 and one of the forgotten children...3DS

Also I kinda prefer the combat stuff going on with Terrarria. I do EoC, BoC, and EoW fights for fun.

I've had this game for ages on steam and haven't played for more than like 10 minutes. A dude I watch on twitch started playing it with his buddy and it looks like once you get mid-late game gear it becomes a lot more action packed.

Is it the type of game where you have to look everything up on a wiki to know what you're doing, or are there like in-game instructions of how to summon all the bosses?

I remember looking stuff up on wikis, but I can't remember if that was due to convenience or necessity

edit: iirc, there is an in game guide person.

There is in fact a guide in game, you bring him an item and he tells you everything you can craft with it and what all you need to for each craft. But unlike a wiki he doesn't tell you where you can find any of the items.
