So, I decided to get into better shape recently, but when I requested a personal trainer at my local gym, I got someone who I consider to be out of shape.

Now, I'm in no position to judge based on where I am with my fitness, but am I wrong to be bothered by this?

I guess the saying "those that can't do, teach" is real.

Maybe the idea is for him to get in better shape along with you. That way you don't have an excuse if you are not meeting your goals.

They may be out of shape due to an injury or illness. Doesn't necessarily mean they're lazy or don't know what they're talking about.

But they're probably lazy

I guess I have the same problem with overweight doctors, but this seems to bother me more.

EDIT: But, you are right, it could be a medical issue.

Usually they are in shape, but if they're knowledgeable about form, routines, and nutrition I wouldn't worry about it. Was it just a big power lifter guy? Cause usually they don't have 6 pack abs.

No, they were just a little flabby around the midsection.

Good point. All that matters is their knowledge of subject matter.

That was my first thought as well.

That's Mark Henry back when he was the strongest man in the world. They go muscle and mass over definition.

Even if he's not, as long as he knows what he's talking about I wouldn't worry.

Some people just have bad diets, or started off really fat before working out.

I mean... it's not an entirely unfair question... though probably too soon to tell.

It'd be like if you went and got a financial advisor and the person assigned to you ended up being some dude who was basically homeless and constantly blew all his cash gambling. You'd be like "uh.... should I listen to you?"

A lot of times you see swole af pro bodybuilders with a trainer that looks like they never competed in their life. They're just there to tell you what to do to reach your goal, not to do it themselves.
