This PSA brought to you by someone who spent 80 hours on their first route and still wants to immediately jump into the next

As far as I remember, enemy reinforcements never moved on the same turn they appeared.

Some of them can appear close to you but with the rewind mechanic it's super easy to position yourself properly ahead of time anyway

yeah they give you time to react

but still augh fuck these strong fliers that came up in the beagles last chapter, almost every pegasus that didn't spawn explicitly on the left border of the map flew straight over to my weaker group going up the right side

this is correct. also applies on hard mode, since I've been playing on hard.

reinforcements don't act until the turn AFTER they appear, and the rewind helps a lot. actually, fire emblem has a classic problem where conditions can change in the middle of a map and you have no way of knowing it until it happens -- effectively meaning you have to play the map at least one time to know what is actually going on. this is the first game in the series that fixes this problem without forcing you to reset the entire game.

There was one map where reinforcements acted the turn they appeared, and it was only one set of reinforcements. I believe it was a Blue Lion's map (or paralogue). But yeah a rewind makes it fine, plus the game is pretty darn easy for 90% of it.

I'm halfway through my third route now, and I enjoy it a little less with every playthrough. It contains maybe the worst map in Fire Emblem history.

I would put as the third worst Fire Emblem, but that still makes it a pretty enjoyable/good game.

I only remember one Fog of War map in my route and it was a catalogue. It was rough though. First encounter with assassin type enemies with higher movement speed and five million Speed.

Pegasus Knights are super easy to deal with because archers in this game are busted.

What's the ratio here for your 80 hours on route one of solid gameplay vs NPC garbage school nerd drama?

I know you can skip it but I was under the impression it's better not to for reasons other than "story".

this is my fear as well. a lot of the out of combat stuff feels tedious to do a second time, especially early on with the school. it helps to see the same scenes with a different set of characters, but it's still the same scenes you've already played before and they don't exactly go quick.

oh yeah I don't feel this way at all. I'd say this is the best one since FE8, at least for me. but I haven't really been a fan of the series since the GBA era so eh. obviously people who feel differently are gonna be less impressed by this.

the map design is kinda boring though, at least from what I've seen so far... so it could be that the more I play of this game the less I end up liking it.

to be honest I kinda got sidetracked and I've been playing Monster Hunter World instead of Fire Emblem lately so yeah. if the game was really that good it probably would have held my interest better...

I kinda love it but I also kinda hate it. enemy archers have the +1 range skill before your characters ever have access to it, which feels unfair. it's only a small part of the game, in fairness, but it's right up front so it's very memorable.

archer player characters tend to be a little bit weak, so this was a much needed buff. fielding an archer actually feels satisfying in this game.

The school stuff is very well done. There's no actual school drama stuff - it's just buildup for Part 2 as you get invested in the characters, who are great.

the game is HEAVILY padded with story scenes and I mean HEAVILY.

I started the game on normal, and played for about 5-7 hours to get to a certain point. decided I wanted to play on Hard. changes houses but skipped through a lot of the cutscenes early on. I ended up catching up to the exact same point in less than 2 hours.

an earlygame battle map takes me 10-15 minutes but it takes almost an hour to run around the school and talk to everyone/complete all of the quests before you even start setting your lesson plans, which sometimes involve additional cutscenes, all before you can get to the next battle.

I'd say the game is my 3rd favorite in the series after Tellius, which probably never get topped for me.

I've heard Blue Lions and Golden Deer are similar to Black Eagles in gameplay but I've got a save right before choosing the Edelgard route and I've heard that's more unique.

MHW left me feeling kind of empty. It's a better game than 4 Ultimate but I enjoyed it less. Partially because the fights weren't as good, but honestly it was mostly due to a change in environment. I played 4U with friends in college and online play simply cannot beat all of us being in the same room together as we played.

Path of Radiance was my first ever FE and I have a lot of really fond memories of it. I really should play it again some time, but I'm concerned that the lack of the recent QOL changes will make me remember it less fondly.
