Probably Time. Nobody wants to have to sit out part of the fight due to slip-ups, and it encourages more aggressive play, or at least kill-stealing, which is part of the fun.

I prefer Time, but if you just wait around for KO's, it's kinda lame. That's why I want a Time mode where you actually get rewarded for dealing damage, which would ensure that everybody stays involved in the fight. For example, score a point each time you deal 100% damage or something....

Stock mode with rewards for dealing damage would be good, too, as you lose the incentive to simply avoid everybody until it's down to two of you. Perhaps gain an extra life for every 200% damage dealt or something like that.

Really, both modes as they are kinda suck because staying away from everybody is advantageous.

actually I still seriously miss all the various point bonuses you got in Melee and wish there was a mode that was decided on that

Time because I'm bad. When it's stock I'm always the first or second person out and then I'm sitting there doing nothing for awhile, so at least with Time I can still be playing the whole match.

mnkboy, the remedy for that is to set a time limit, and then give everyone enough stock that it's nearly impossible to lose all of your lives before (time) is up.

Oh, I was reading it as current damage taken, like regular fighting games. Running damage dealt total would promote offense but it'd kind of feel like an arbitrary metric imposed after the fact when you directly experience things like KOs, and Sudden Death is a very direct, active way of breaking ties too.
