The English scripts for each game have been reviewed, revised, and even rewritten in some cases, and content previously cut from the western releases of Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 have been re-added in The Yakuza Remastered Collection.

This is HUGE, holy shit. Y3 was utterly butchered when it came out because back then being "too Japanese" was still a thing. Legit can't wait to play it as intended. (Almost as much as I can't wait to play a version of Y5 that doesn't bring the console to its knees.)

I used to be a release order guy but this series is just too huge and too good at this point to stubbornly insist that people start with a janky badly dubbed ps2 game.

Y0 is also a cool starting point if you're playing on PC since you can go Y0 -> Kiwami 1 -> Kiwami 2 and by then they'll probably have these new remasters up as well if you're craving more.

Hey this is a pretty neat announcement. I've only played 0 but I loved it. I own Kiwami 1 because PS+. I'm pretty booked in gaming for the foreseeable future, though. But these will be excellent dry spell games.

Kiwami 2 cut way too much content from the original, I feel that unlike original 1, original 2 isnt that outdated.

Kiwami 2 cut one screen where you play a mandatory game of shogi and added a poopload of stuff including Cabaret Management - I'd take that trade a hundred times tbqh.

I guess to get Cabaret Management we did lose the host minigame but that's also a trade I'm willing to make, as great as the GOLD cutscene was.

I'm legit baffled there are still folks who haven't caught on that the west loves buying hyper Japanese stuff. Other Sega staff have even mentioned it specifically in regard to Yakuza totally blowing up over here!

Kiwami 2 did add a lot of great things, but if it included the missing area from 2, the host minigame, hostess clubs, and the different cabaret management it would have been the full package. Also the soundtrack greatly differed especially in certain fights and scenes.

I felt like they sort of glossed over Kamurocho Hills suddenly being far enough in construction to be taller than the Millenium Tower in Kiwami 2, but for all I know the original was like that too.

I'm still mad that my Yakuza 3 disc froze at the post-final-boss cutscene. And then there was the voucher DLC that was just totally lost to the ages due to being expired. I'm probably not going to replay yet, though. 0 is next.

Yakuza 3 is a mixed bag but overall I like it a lot. The bosses are super ridiculous and gimmicky but they felt like they stood out way more than most of the stuff 4/5 had, with a few exceptions. I'd go as far to say I love everything in Okinawa, including Kiryu's 10/10 retirement look.

Beyond that it has some weird stuff like really forced character appearances just to see them in the new engine, BEAUTIFUL EYES and the whole twin brother nonsense. It was also the beginning of the "Daigo literally can't do anything right" era, lol.
