Anyone who plays music loud enough for others to hear is rude.

Music is so varied and tastes so diverse. People don't want to hear other people's shit music.

Especially since the kind of person to do that is probably listening to pure garbage music.

I remember I was talking with my friends outside of a movie theater after the movie ended one night when this guy walked down the street blasting music. I didn't see any speaker or anything and my immediate thought was, "Aww man. That guy's the main character and we're just extras in his movie! Damn it!"

The average person who does this doesn't even have a destination, either, adding to their overall level of annoyance. They are usually just walking around aimlessly or standing on the sidewalk.

But what about boombox culture?

It is as rude as people who blast their music from cars.

If it is something more universal like rock or pop people will be less pissed than country or rap.

Weirdly classical rarely tends to piss people off, they will just think you are eccentric and intelligent.

This wasn't really a thing tbh. It was popular on the coast of California, but the rest of the nation didn't really follow and it was highlighted in movies and television much more than it was actually popular. I grew up in this era, and can remember one instance in my life where someone had a boombox playing in a public place.

Ffs the things took like 8 C batteries to run for a few hours.

But you gotta admit, you saw people breakdancing on cardboard. And to some extent, Graffiti is an art.

Yes, and I fully agree that grafitti is art. The Get Down on Netflix is an exceptional show that captures Philly in that era, and gives you a greater appreciation for taggers.

There is genuinely brilliant art tagged in subways and urban areas in both cities.

Ya, I totally agree. It really is an unappreciated kinda guerrilla artform.
I am glad I wasn't a part of NYC or Philly in the 70's-80's, or early 90's.
Even in the posh town I'm from I was on the other side of the tracks, and that was bad enough.
My mother, by choice, because of who she was, was a counselor on the run down side of town.
I was exposed to it all, and go no breaks because of it. It was a learning experience.

And it's always the most low level conversations. Never hear anyone talking loudly on the phone with an intelligent perspective on a subject.
