The first movie is in my top 10. The others, not so much. But I still enjoy them a great deal.

Im a fan but not a super diehard fan.

I've watched Matrix 2 & 3 but never understood them and found them too boring to care. Yet I still keep watching 2 & 3 to see if I "get" them.

Matrix 1 is a masterpiece however.

I really liked the first Matrix, but the passing of time and the dragging weight of the sequels has lessened my regard for it.

It didn't really help that, even when it came out, I was already aware of a couple of other things that The Matrix seemed to be blatantly ripping off, so I never really had that "OMG THIS SHIT IS GENIUS" reaction too many people seem to have had. And I'd already had a Philosophy 101 class in college, so I didn't have the "OMG THIS SHIT IS SO DEEP" reaction that way too many teenagers got out of it.

It was a pretty good sci-fi movie at the time, though. Even if I thought Dark City and Thirteenth Floor were better.

First one was great.

Second and third were pretty bad. Id imagine if I was a bigger fan of the original, Id hate the sequels even more.

I'm getting there in life with all the science fiction I read as well. In a way, it makes things predictable, but it also makes me happy when I see "deeper" ideas put into movies.

Yes, but mainly the first one. I like two a lot when it came out, but don't really care as much now. Didn't like 3 much at all. It wasn't bad it just doesn't hold a candle to the first one.

The first one is still my favorite movie.

Went with really liked them.

First movie is great. Second one is underrated IMO. The story isnt as good as the first to be sure, but it has some great action scenes in it (Neo vs Smiths, Neo vs the Merovingians gang, the highway chase scene). I enjoyed it a lot.

Third movie was a disappointment, but the first two very much hold their own in my eyes.

Honestly, given the casting spoilers, I really want to see it to find out how the hell they're planning to pull that off. Also I may have seen (& cried at) Revolutions 37 times (I lost count of the others), so, there's that. Not my favourites ever, but pretty close.

Also, do please bear in mind I was thirteen when the first one came out. Also, Carrie-Anne Moss sort of hits nearly all of my weaknesses. *g*

Most of it doesn't really feel like it belongs in the same universe as the movies to me.

Other than Final Flight of the Osiris, most of the stories feel more like alternate reality "inspired by The Matrix" sort of stories than anything actually canon to the universe. Like a shitty EU that drags everything else down by existing unless you blatantly ignore it. Or for a more charitable interpretation, you could view them more like art pieces done by people in-universe based on folk legends they've told for years which may or may not be true (and which are likely extremely distorted even if they ARE true).

Plus I find the overall plot of Second Renaissance to be incredibly ham-fisted and cliche, which kind of kills any interest I have in it, or desire to view it as canon. The fact that it exists as official backstory sort of retroactively makes all of the movies less worthwhile for me.
