Waiting in line 20 minutes for a chicken sandwich IS too long, because waiting defeats the entire purpose of going to a fast food place in the first place.

If I can prepare something at home faster than you, it will almost certainly taste better, cost less, and completely invalidate your entire existence. The only advantage you have is speed and convenience - once you remove the speed and convenience, you offer nothing of value.

As for waiting 2-3 hours, no human in the entire history of our species has ever made a chicken sandwich delicious enough for me to wait that long. At that point you'd better be offering free blowjobs at the front of that line.

Both wait times are too long. Just because one is less reasonable doesn't automatically push another into what is reasonable for a chicken sandwich.

What does "Louisiana Fast" even mean? For all I know, it might still be somewhat laid back and "Fast" in that case could be a half hour.

I kept seeing Popeyes refered to as "Quick Service." Turns out that that's the official term for Fast Food. So, yeah, I was wrong.

I always considered fast food as getting your food within a minute or so, which hasn't been my experience with them the few times I've been there -- it took 5-10 min to get my order. I figured quick service was a step below fast food regarding speed of receiving your order.

I dont think Ive gotten food within a minute at most places, tbh. Maybe inside a Chick-fil-a, but not always there, either...

^ There was a "speed war" among the burger joints. I remember McDonald's having timers at the counter to show how long it took. IIRC, that was in the '80s and maybe early-'90s. I believe McD's stated goal back then was under a minute. Or, maybe that was just McD's for marketing purpose -- my ~30 year old memories are fuzzy on that.

The fact people would be paid to stand in lines up to 8 hours to get one for someone else...

Maybe this is the real problem - it's kind of known that fast food service in the South is glacially slow, because they don't really feel the same time pressure people from the Northeast or West Coast tend to accept as a matter of course.

Of course, the flip-side is that the same issue makes most Southerners look at people from the Northeast and West Coast as being impatient assholes.

The only fast food restaurant where I frequently wait about 20 minutes for my food is Jack in the Box; other places (including the Popeye's locations I've been to) have a typical wait time of 5-10 minutes, and McDonald's usually gets my food ready in less than a minute.

I worked at bk in thr past decade our target time was like a minute and thirty seconds. Reality was two to three minutes unless they were the only customer. And yeah we got timed and it got logged into a system where either regional or corporate could keep tabs on how well we did.

Our local McDonalds does this... and they get around it during their slow times. In the morning they dont actually put your order in the computer... until you pay. And then they immediately mark it as completed so it took like 3 seconds. This has lead to me getting several incorrect breakfasts.

Yeah my bk didnt do that that clock started ticking the moment a order was made and it didnt quit until the food was handed to them.

Would hwy 55 be considered fast food? They cook all their food to order and serve you like its a sit down place but they have a 5 minute goal time on getting food out.

I know of a few restaurants like that. They probably know people will come regardless and by keeping it to a smaller restaurant or as few as possible, it keeps their overall overhead cost down.

I havent heard of them, but that sounds more Fast Casual.

Yeah they arent nationwide by a longshot. Used to be called Andy's burgers shakes and fries. (They started to expand and ran into another place with a similar name and just decided it wasnt worth a legal battle) But yeah its good if you can handle the 50s theme. They play nothing but 50s music there aesthetic of the interior looks like a 50s diner. They used to make the waitresses wear poodle skirts but they did quit that.
