51 y/o Married Man, Manuel Torres from North Carolina is SUING after he was FIRED and says he was wrongfully terminated for his religious beliefs because he refused to train a female police officer!!

He's a 5 year vet who was asked by his boss to train a female deputy in July 2017 and according to the lawsuit,he asked for a religious accomodation because he "holds the strong and sincere religious belief that the Holy Bible prohibits him, as a married man, from being alone for extended periods with a female who is not his wife"

This practice known as the "Billy Graham Rule" named after the late evagenlical pastor who promoted that men avoid spending time alone with women who they are not married to

He's a Southern Baptist and occasionally a deacon at East Sanford Baptist Church and said that if he did this he'd appear as "sinful conduct"

His boss alternately granted and denied him the accommodation while higher up expressed "anger" over multiple religious accommodations requests

He was fired on September 11 with no reason as Torres claims this firing resulted in a "loss of income and benefits" loss of quality and enjoyment of life and loss of reputation

He's asking for 300,000 smackers in compensatory damages and 15,000 in punitive damages

Vice President Mike Pence told the Hill in 2002 that he too would never eat alone with a woman not his wife as Mississippi Rep. Robert Foster also said he wouldn't allow a reporter on his campaign trail

His wife is GRATEFUL for a husband who sticks to his morals and is outraged that the police dept won't accommodate his values

The Lee County Sheriff's Office did not respond to Dailymail for comment.

Oh, that makes more sense. Guess the title was misleading as usual >_>

Granted, how many other people are in that department? That kind of an accommodation might not be a big deal in a really large department where others can do it, but if it's just a handful of people it might not be feasible.

But protecting the peace isnt the only requirement of his job. So his inability to train a female recruit interferes with his ability to do his job.

I hear about these dudes refusing to be alone w/ a female other than their wife, and I always wonder b/c I never hear the sentiment reciprocated...

Are their wives likewise refusing to be alone w/ another guy, or are these dudes all just huge saps?

Very rarely heard a guy said this. Generally when I do there is something wrong with the guy. Either he thinks he can't be with a woman without sexually harassing them or maybe in this case the guy thinks a woman shouldn't be a cop.

can he not pull over women either or is that okay for some reason?

if you are such a stickler for this being a cop seems lilenit would have quite a few problems with this

If all the men that I work with in my job followed that rule (most of them are married), the only drivers would be widowers or women. Besides wouldn't it be harder for a widower to resist that temptation than some guy who's married already? Next I expect to hear that we're going back to the old ways where 'women don't work' period because work is 'a man's thing' like in the 1930s, which wasn't true then and isn't true now.
