On the gba. Ive only slightly dabbled in it before but Ive never given it a full playthrough. Starting it now

Ill probably never make it through. I feel like the part of me that had the patience for it is gone. Think Ive made it pass the half way point. Also, I put open world RPGs down too long and Im lost. Much easier to play the straight forward Persona 5 type shit

I gave up around the time I got to the castle after the powering up of the meteorites.
Its not bad but it's just grindy and I never felt like I was progressing

Naw, its fairly easy unless youre doing a Four Job Fiesta run and got a bad draw. The game gives you a variety of powerful options and lets you mix-and-match them as you please.

Top tier gameplay with the customization from the job system.

Endlessly replayable, also due to the job system allowing you to approach each dungeon and boss differently each time.

The two world maps are awesome, plus the extra-large third world map is really cool. Love that it even has a full network of connected elements that allow you to run to every continent on a Chocobo in a single trip.

The cast is small and simple, but memorable. Faris is my fave, gotta love a purple-haired pirate woman who is captain of a ship pulled by her pet sea serpent.

Probably has my favorite pacing in the whole series. Love that the first half of the game is punctuated by different elemental towns/dungeons/bosses, and your leaps in progress come with new jobs for everyone. Keeps the momentum rolling in full force.
Plus the late game does a similar thing with the unlockable super-weapons, so every time you make progress you can stop by the castle and pick your new weapons, go test them out in the next area, return to the castle and unlock more, etc. They just nailed it on this game, so much forward momentum simply by motivating you with great rewards. And bonus points for those rewards being personalized (picking which weapons to unlock, and the jobs go without saying).

Underrated OST as well, even though its not my top pick in that area.

All RPGs of that era have grindiness, but FFV isn't one of the most egregious examples by a long shot. There will be times where you just want to get to the end of an area and get into random battles over and over and over. That's just how those games work.

I've started it a few times and never finished it. It has its charms but it didn't age as well as IV or VI imho.

5 is as grindy as you make it

you can go balls out maxing all the classes if you really feel the need to but you only really should get the things to make freelancer and mime great at endgame. even then it's not necessary unless you're tackling the bonus content

I really liked it. Cheesed the final boss with some mimic and summon nonsense lol

Bartz and Firion are like the most forgettable MC of FF games LMAO
