As an engineering, hopefully no later than 75. At that point I hope to volunteer at some national park as a ranger maybe. Can only hope I've been investing my money wisely enough. Besides those wanting to work, it's kinda dreadful to see someone that old who still need to work depending on the type of work. My mother is in her 70's now and retired. I do not want to imagine her going back to her cashier job and standing hours on end or moving grocery around. She's fit and surprisingly strong for her age but I still do not want that kinda physical work on her.

Lol, there is absolutely no way I'll ever be able to retire. In 35 years we're going to be in a whole new world of problems, and there will not be enough labour force to sustain the comparatively large retired class.

If I ever retire, it'll be in my late 70s at the earliest, but I have my doubts.

Because I've been gaming since the mechanical arcade games of the 1950s, built my first electronic game for oscilloscope display as a teenager in 1961, and have watched the growth of electronic games from the beginning.

Good for you! :) Age shouldn't be a barrier to gaming in one way or another (though yes, I do agree with the certificated games *being* certificated, even little kids have age-appropriate games they could play).

I'm 33, but medically retired already, and have been for several years. I've been pretty well told outright that if I ever try to go back to full-time work it could kill me.

Why would you be bored? Retirement gives time to do more things you WANT to do. I help out at the auto shop next door when I feel like it, teach the university extension classes I think are fun, cook for a blind neighbor, volunteer for small gigs, work on my own little collection of sports cars (pretty much have the E36 in shape, rebuilding an MA61 Supra).

That's true, a lot of things I wouldn't mind doing since I didn't get much spare time throughout my career (although I am only 32 now). I suspect my fear of boredom was more out of not being directly involved in the work which I currently do (I'm in consulting) and would instead contribute to society/communities/family in a different way.

You could take some of the US's migrants, if you want >_> tbh, Japan is trying to fix its demographic imbalance (resulting from fewer people having kids due to cultural changes within the society) by letting in economic immigrants. Other nations with declining national birthrates are probably going to have to go the same direction at some point.

There was once a time when we had a single poll of the day, and people discussed said poll of the day on this board. There also was no way to add polls to topics so there really was, only one real poll a day.

I guess that makes some sense. As I said before, I'm only 33 and already medically retired. I have a handful of lifelong chronic conditions. But if I can survive my bipolar disorder & don't make any slip-ups with my morphine, I might reach old age.

My thoughts on retirement are divided between extremes, I think either the world won't be habitable anywhere near long enough for me to reach "typical" retirement age, or the increase in human lifespans will far outpace the wealth of the middle class (I mean, the latter has already been going backwards for a long time) and people will need to be like 78 to retire
