I use index, middle, ring. I see thumb, index, middle often and pinky, ring, middle rarely. My coworker uses index, middle, and pinky which I haven't seen before. Never saw any of the other combinations naturally.

thumb onwards, I count on hand a lot actually, probably cause card games, and it usually takes more than 3 fingers so any other way is weird.

Index, middle, ring, pinky, thumb in that order for up to 5. For 6, if I'm counting on just one hand, I close my other fingers and leave my thumb out. Thumb, index, middle, ring, pinky. Then at 11 I start over with the index finger.

Mostly index, middle, ring; but if I'm using [American] sign language, then it's thumb, index, ring because index/middle is V and index/middle/ring can be either a W or, if you're signing numbers higher than 5 with one hand, a 6.
(For one-handed signing of 6-9, the thumb and one other finger come together while the others remain extended. Thumb with pinkie [i.e. which is normally used for 3] is 6, with ring 7, with middle 8, with index 9. And 10? Just do a thumbs-up while shaking your hand a bit.)

I start with my thumb.

When I try counting starting with my index finger, my thumb flares out awkwardly further with each finger.

Index, middle, thumb, and pinky for 4 (while counting up from 3).
Index, middle, ring, and pinky for 4 (when signaling "4" to someone)

I can't physically do index, middle, and ring for 3. Can't raise ring without pinky, and using thumb to hold down pinky is so clunky; takes an extra second to hold down the pinky and can still barely do that even.

Have you ever watched someone from Japan count on their fingers? They do it backwards and its weird when you see them do it for the first time.

Yes I was just about to mention this. I think some Korean people might do this too. They begin with fingers extended and fold them in to count lol

I should have clarified that the options are just what three fingers you'll put up, not necessarily the order you put them up. If order were included, then I'd need a lot more poll options haha

Lol. Im glad I wasnt the only one that stood out to and it wasnt just the couple people Ive met and seen do that.
