I think the idea is people will be expecting a sequel to the Kubrick movie and not the novel. The marketing so far isn't helping.

As far as I can tell, it's incorporating a lot of Stanley Kubrick's film into the adaptation, and the director considers it to take place in the same universe as the movie.

Some of that, as well as some people whining that they're making a sequel to such an iconic movie. The idea that any story should never have a sequel is stupid, tbqh :/
