An American Girl has told of her how grandfather died because she REFUSED to give him her KIDNEY because he was a member of the KKK AND a CHILD MOLESTER!!

She wrote in the FB Group, I Dreamed Of Being This Petty and explained how her grandpa neededa kidney when she was a teen and she was the ONLY suitable match...

But she DECLINED to help him because he was inthe Klan and molested children.

Instead, she became an organ donor AFTER he died and is planning to donate her kidney to a stranger

She works as a nurse and was met with supportive comments from users who agreed she made the right decision as her name is blocked out by Dailymail for privacy reasons..

One person wrote "Your body, your choice"

Another siad "Even if your grandfather wasn't a total a**hole, i still don't think not giving an organ makes you an a**hole. That's a serious decision and you don't owe your organs to anyone"

Another said "If anyone that doesn't deserve a kidney, it was your grandfather" as others were more poignant and said "You're a badass" and "Amazing"

Do you think she made the right decision?

I seriously doubt that story, but yes, you absolutely should be the only one who decides what happens with your organs.

She made the decision that's right for her. If a family member ricks their life for you by giving you one of their organs you're lucky. You however are not entitled to it. Besides he's old and she's young so her life>his.

"Her body, her choice" could be used to justify either answer. It doesn't really have anything to do with anything. And somebody being a member of the KKK isn't exactly politics, nor is the fact that he was supposedly a child molester. Granted, give that this is all based on self-reported claims from Facebook, any part of the story -- or the whole thing -- might be a complete fabrication.

Yeah he is, but people don't have to basically be spare parts for someone just because they're related.

Being related doesn't mean that you have to like, or even care about, someone. You don't chose who you're related to, after all. Just being related to someone doesn't mean that you owe them anything by default.

I agree strongly with this sentiment, actually. There was a girl on a gameshow I was watching who was in her 20s who donated her kidney to some guy in his 60s and I could only think about what a tragic waste of an organ it was.

First, a few decades is a pretty strong assumption, particularly when someone already has health problems to the point where they need a kidney transplant. Second, if you're willing to donate it, why not donate it to someone much younger who hasn't lived a full life?

Edit: Some quick research tells me the guy was actually 72 at the time of the transplant, lost both of his kidneys to cancer, and his wife was already deceased. I respect that it's her choice, it just seems wasteful.

It's simple. What kind of grandfather would even entertain the idea of letting his teen granddaughter risk her life in major surgery. Surgical complications aside, consider the life-long effects on her health and well-being.

Yep, which means exactly the opposite of how the saying is often misappropriated.

The opposite happens to be true for a lot of people though so thats probably why it got changed. Its unfortunately very normal. Friends start their own families and are too busy the older you get. I take it as your immediate family though like a husband/wife kids and perhaps your parents.

It's only ever brought up to try and guilt trip somebody into valuing their family over anyone else, despite having no actual weight beyond being a popular saying (well, and the fact that blood is literally thicker than water, but physics has little bearing on relationships). The fact that it actually means the opposite of that (that the relationships you cultivate are more meaningful than the ones you're born into) just makes using it even sillier.

Everyone is different. Its just I think its easier to cultivate said relationships with family as usually you have no choice but to associate with them.

Thats what I was getting at. Other wise I agree. Outside my immediate family I have nothing to do with the rest really. I dont even know most of my cousins. Sadly my only friend though lives half way across the country so outside the ocassional phone call we don't spend any time around each other. And thr older I get the less i want to make new friends.

Well, for starters, young people are already higher up the donor list thanks to attitudes like yours so they're more likely to be covered.

Second, it's a matter of personal circumstances. Older people are more likely to have families who rely on them vs younger people who are often single. When you prioritize a 20 y/o over a 50 y/o, that 50 y/o's kids suffer as well. So trying to argue on the basis of age as a utilitarian factor is pretty flawed.

It's not really risking her life to any realistic degree and people only need one kidney to survive. As for her health impact, pretty much anything that might affect her kidneys would likely impact both so... you're not really saving anything there either.
