Tempest block did it, Urza's block said "lol hold my beer", and Mirrodin almost killed the competitive scene.

What do you mean "ruins"?

They pretty heavily playtest cards now which I doubt they did as thoroughly in the past.

They playtested pretty heavily back in tempest too.

And Urzas.

And Mirrodin.

They ruined the fonts for the set names.

That's kinda lame.

But Throne of Eldraine looks cool. Tbh I like most magic sets. The one I liked the least since I started was the Theros block, and even that one was cool.

Most are fun, though the power creep has pushed costs to extremes, to the point that if you aren't winning regularly, competitive Standard(or whatever Type 2 became) is the most expensive mainstream gaming hobby in the world :( I miss the days when a set during its own block had cards max out around $20.

There are only two cards in Standard currently that cost more than $20 and the more expensive one is $25.

Nothing should be more than $20, and it wasn't that long ago where playsets of some standard cards were costing over $100. *coughTarmogoyfcoughJacecough*

Jace is ten years old now. Tarmogoyf is 12 years old.

I'm just saying, you're longing for the days when cards weren't more than $20 a piece and we're currently living in a time period where there's only one card in standard that is more expensive than $20 a piece that's part of actual decks (the other, Crucible of Worlds, isn't played in Standard but is expensive because it sees play in older formats).
