Tentatively I'd rank it roughly 9th in the Pixar canon, below Up, Inside Out, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Coco, and, disappointingly, all three previous Toy Story films. I was kinda hoping this one would be the cream of the crop of the series, but is actually the weakest of the four. Still a great film though, and the new characters are all pretty great.

Curious where the Incredibles lies in your estimation.

Saw it last week.

It had moments that were fun, but really didn't feel like a Toy Story movie. There were also things I really didn't like.

It was okay, better then some of the movies Pixas has made this decade for sure.

Probably directly below the group listed in my OP.

That's comforting. Glad you got to finally see TS4!

4 was super disappointing. They probably knew this was probably gonna be the last movie but they sidelined most of the characters. They were LITERALLY in the backseat

Characters were acting super out of character (buzz mostly)

and the plot felt recycled at times

but god damn, the thing is, that ending just sucker punches you

I would even argue it hit harder than TS3's because 4's just came out of nowhere. It almost saved the whole movie because it made you realize nothing will be the same anymore. At least in 3 the characters were still together, just in a new place. They broke up the damn gang in 4

it made you CONFRONT what they meant to you

Right, I mean, if they make a Toy Story 5, they could not reasonably have everyone in it, specifically, they could not reasonably have both Woody and Buzz, which would just be... blargh.

And yeah it did suck that we didn't get much from the characters we know and love. Hell, I think Bonnie's toys (her original gang, like Trixie and Buttercup) got more lines than, say, Rex or Hamm (I knew Potato Head wouldn't get much since all of his lines were unused lines from the first three films). It says a lot that all the new characters (Duke, Duckie/Bunny, Gabby, etc) appeared on the cast list before the gang we've come to know and love.

But as I let 4 sink in I do think it had some great moments and themes, but as a whole, I agree with the assessment that it felt like a new Pixar property with the Toy Story gang than a Toy Story movie.

Buzz being a complete idiot was really annoying, I agree.

But good film overall.

yeah, the way buzz was handled was one of my biggest problems with toy story 4.

not only was the "i'm seeking guidance from my inner voice" running gag not funny (even though they kept it going forever), there's no way buzz would actually act like this, based on the first three movies. it's like a completely different character.
