like, if this mario kart makes crazy amounts of money, and has millions playing it, i have a serious fear about the franchise moving forward, ok?

like, will they ever want to do another console entry? would it even be fiscally worth it, if mario kart tour is dwarfing it in profit?

Depends how well the game itself turns out. If they have to make a lot of compromises in terms of content to get the game working on a weaker platform, there'll still be a sizable market for better-quality MK games on consoles, particularly where it's one of the few major local multiplayer franchises left. There also likely will not be that much of a market for mobile sequels, so any further development on a full-game scale will likely result in a new console game instead of a mobile one.

or they just keep adding new content to the base mobile version, and keep tweaking the gameplay. make every new set of tracks they sell a huge event, along with new racers and karts. it has the potential to have even longer legs than mk8, ok?

I'm hoping it bombs. Terrible viewpoint, major pay to win aspects and always online? That's a big pass from me

We can only hope.

Its become too easy to cater to the masses and sadly most are too ignorant about quality videogames to recognize when they are handed crap.

Eh, given their past mobile game track record I dont see it happening. Most Nintendo mobile games Ive seen come out have fallen flat, besides Pokmon Go (still very active and profitable app, despite it not being the phenomenon it was when it came out) and Fire Emblem Heroes.

In recent memory, Doctor Mario World and Pokemon Masters bored me to death within a few minutes, and what Ive heard of Mario Kart Tour from beta players wasnt exactly great...

Anyways, from the success stories, we can see two different ways Nintendo has handled the success:

- Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee. Very mixed game. Personally I was gifted this and rushed to get Meltan as fast as I could. Havent really been a fan of Gen 1 in a while, and the gameplay wasnt really gripping for me. Some people liked this game, some didnt. Its not the blueprint going forward as far as I can tell though.

- Fire Emblem Three Houses. Borrows nothing from the mobile game, and adjusts a lot of the things people have had a gripe with the series since the 3DS games. Very well received; even a month later Im still talking to people about the game (outside of the 3 Houses board). From what I understand (I havent played since a few months after Heroes came out) they released banners that promoted Three Houses characters. Thats a good tie-in I think.

As for Mario Kart, the thing thats holding back Mario Kart 9 the most is... Mario Kart 8. Top selling game on both WiiU and Switch, and Im pretty sure its still in the top sellers...

At the end of the day though I wish Super Mario Run didnt have poor sales. I prefer just buying games rather than playing F2P games that are ridden with microtransactions.

The only ones who will play it are filthy casuals who will play it for 3 days then forget it ever existed, and ones who likely never played a Mario game before, but pretends to be a big fan of the series.
