I took a position as assistant coach for the chess team. I am casual and rusty but I could see myself really getting into it, and I feel like I should at least try to stay ahead of some of the newbies. Anybody got some good resources for learning, or particular computer implementations they like? I'd rather play with an AI than a stranger.

YouTube is a decent resource at an intermediate level. Probably also at a beginner level but I don't really know much about resources at that level. I have watched opening videos (Saint Louis Chess Club is good for this and in general) as well as game analysis videos somewhat often. YouTube is no substitute for a real coach or skilled playing partner but it's good for people like myself who are more casually looking to improve.

As far as playing goes, this isn't exactly what you asked for but Lichess is a very convenient, free and easy to use site for playing games against other people online. They also have a "play against the computer" option but I don't know how it compares to other similar options elsewhere.

You can set the computer level, and you get a free basic analysis.
