Nintendo completely failed in their marketing, and their naming department, because consumers thought it was just an add on to the Wii.

This botched advertising caused horrible sales and Nintendo eventually decided to pretend it didn't exist. They lost their grasp on the casuals

people, mostly on the internet, followed the shitting on the wii u because they're sheep

yea, it looks even MORE like a joke now because anything worth while is now being ported, again, Nintendo pretending it didn't exist

but it was a mighty fine system. Miiverse was fun, it had LOTS of titles on eshop, it actually let you transfer your titles from the Wii for a small fee. (Better than Wii u to Switch, which is no transfers at all)

the titles were fun, I damn near played it everyday, and that was BEFORE smash

also Free online

BC with Wii AND the controllers too. thats a bigger deal than people realize

Seeing alot of Wii U hate lately and its like, shut the hell up, yall enjoyed it when it was out too

Wii U will always be extra special to me because it was the system I tested games on

WiiU had a horrible controller and not nearly enough games. I think the only WiiU games I sank much time into were Mario Maker, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors.

I think it was an okay console in terms of features (Miiverse was cool and it actually had a VC) but it was just for hardcore Nintendo fans. And even then, as someone who loves Nintendo, it just felt like it was constantly ONE good game away from being great. By the time Smash came out I was kind of over the console, though playing that with friends was plenty fun enough. So in the end it just feels like...yeah, that was alright, but kind of a waste of time.

I much preferred playing on the Wii U gamepad over the Switch. I lived with roommates at the time and I used that thing all the time when they wanted to watch TV. Maybe it's different because I live alone now but I basically never play the Switch in handheld mode. The gamepad was way more comfortable imo

I always call the Wii U "the best purchase I've ever regretted". If I had known how quickly Nintendo would bury the damn thing and port nearly all its key titles to Switch (with extra content, no less), I absolutely would have passed on the U and waited for the Switch.

But at the same time, the first-party lineup on the U was right up my alley. Splatoon 1 in its prime was arguably worth the price of admission all on its own. Then there was Tropical Freeze, Smash 4, Pikmin 3, the highly-underrated Kirby and the Rainbow Curse... even stuff like Game & Wario and New Super Mario Bros. U were much more fun than one would expect.

In a vacuum, the Wii U is a blast. Nonetheless, I find it impossible not to feel like The Dipshit Who Actually Bought a Wii U. C'est la vie!

I never had a Wii so it was a good for me. Bayonetta 2 and Splatoon were really fun, and I had a great time with MK8 and Smash Bros WiiU.

But its without a doubt the worst gaming system I own.

Wii U was really easy to hack, so that was neat! Beyond that it had a very small yet mighty library. The whole thing will likely vanish from memory once the last meaningful game is ported.
