An auto dealership is the one place I would definitely use the employee 10% discount.

Time is a funny thing. There is always too much of it, except when you need it the most. Then there is never enough.

I'm pretty sure it's more than 10% discount... but anyhow, I don't think I'd want to work in a dealership. Even if I loved the brand or the cars, I don't know if I'd want to have to spend my days selling them. Maybe working a high end brand might be different... but again, doesn't appeal to me.

as an it guy, no. i hate dealing with the tech illiterate. it would be like trying to communicate with someone who can't read or write. just ugh
and then dealing with the applications that the dealer enforces you use cause they wrote it and nothing else exists. ugh

From what I've heard from a friend who started out at a Chrysler dealership and moved around to Kia, Chevy, Mitsubishi, and Nissan before landing at an Audi dealership, selling the Audis is a lot easier due to the fact that people with shitty credit who have no business getting a car loan typically don't walk into Audi dealerships. They know what they want and it's almost always a smooth transaction.

But I think even in Audi, expectation is sell X number of cars. I think that kind of KPI/metric driven role would dishearten me from the brand.

Agreed though, I'd hate to have to deal with time wasters.

I used to think I never could, but the more I learn about cars now, I feel like its doable. Modern cars are pretty much all quality cars. Its fairly easy to highlight the positives. If a person comes to you, they are obviously already okay with buying that brand. At that point you just get their sense of style and match up the car. It wouldnt feel like I'm just trying to con them into buying trash.

Good point - I think if I'm really passionate about a brand, I probably would enjoy the role actually... It would be great if I didn't have to deal with discounting/negotiating though so I don't have to cheapen the brand.
