Current Events > Ao no Kiseki (Trails series) is one of the best games I've played now.

After 87 goddamn hours. It's the fifth game in the Kiseki series, some of you may have heard (probably from me >_>) of the others, Trails in the Sky and Cold Steel. Zero and Ao are the two unlocalized ones but thankfully they both have English patches, and I feel fortunate to be able to play them that way.

Because goddamn Ao was an amazing, top quality ride. Counting the currently released English games that are out, it's imo the best cast, best story, best music. I even like the protagonist, Lloyd, over Estelle.

Now when Cold Steel III comes out in October I can fully enjoy the Crossbell side of things. And here's hoping the next arc has a similar main cast (smaller and more fleshed out on their own and with each other) instead of something like the bigass class that Cold Steel has.

Is that the stuff on GOG sale? What is the gameplay like? Standard JRPG fare?

Basically a blander persona with even worse harem tropes weird character models and a somehow even more tedious school setting. This only applies to Cold Steel versions btw. Never played Trails

Ao was fantastic. It was so much fun. It is one of my favorite games of all time. I really hope it gets a true English release. I want as many people as possible to get to enjoy it. I love this series so much. It has filled the whole that suikoden left when it died.

It is, yes. It's a pretty standard JRPG in terms of gameplay. Turn-based combat that does have movement, so placement of your character/attacks is a fun additional thing to think about. The arts (spells, essentially) system is a fun mix and match type of system with each character, and you decide who has what arts and what you're willing to sacrifice for something else.

Where all the effort is put in is the amount of writing, world building, and lore. It honestly isn't a series for people who dislike reading, because there's a ton of it.

It really does need an official localization. I know Falcom is looking into porting the games to modern consoles--hopefully then, someone will snap it up for a western release.

I've played them too, yes!

Hmm, I can't think of any tips that you wouldn't have picked up yourself from FC. Arts are still powerful. Keep on the lookout for Gambler Jack chapters. The missables game is strong in this series lol.

Good god, the Crossbell arc was fantastic and probably my favorite out of the trilogy so far.

Here's hoping they localize some ports of them. I wouldn't mind replaying the series and going balls in on all the sidequests.

They both have English patches. Zero's is pretty shoddy but it's getting a high quality patch from a Geofront team sometime this year. Ao's translation patch is loads better with some spelling errors sprinkled here and there.

You and everyone, man. D: It was initially slated for before Cold Steel III release (before CSIII got pushed back) but I think they had a bunch of irl stuff happen.
