First year in college. Was asleep in the dorms when the first plane hit. Buddy woke me up yelling about us going to war. Called my pops cause one of my uncles worked close to the Towers.

I was in 1st grade at the time, so I don't remember a lot; my sat down on the floor in front of our teacher like we would when he'd read us part of a book and he told us the basics of what had happened - I think he might've shown a brief news clip or at least played some radio coverage. This went on for about 10-15 minutes and afterward we just went about our day like normal - I guess since we were so young our teacher + the school administration didn't want us to dwell on it too much. Honestly it didn't feel much different from any other day of school at the time, but memories feel so daunting in hindsight.

I was doing leisure walking (our high schools sport option for those not so physical exercise inclined... or cheap) and we were at the local mall. I was near the Maccas in the food court and saw the breaking news come up on the TV.

I was asleep at the time, even though I live in NYS. By the time I woke up both towers were gone.

This topic will probably come up again, in a few days, so I might elaborate more then.

When it happened? Sleeping

Later that day when I got up to go to work and turned on the news for a bit I was in complete shock. It was surreal not hearing/seeing any airplanes flying in the sky on my walk to work that day.

I was a junior in high school. My schedule was pretty sweet at the time. I had study halls first and second period. Both will chill teachers that would let you sleep in class.

I was in my second study hall at the time. It ran from around 9 to around 10 am, and it was in one of the biology labs. I was napping. The principal came on the PA system, and said a plane hit the world trade center. They then turned CNN on all the TVs. The big CRT ones that hung up on mounts in the corners of the rooms with VCRs underneath.

When they first turned it on, everybody seemed confused as to why exactly. That summer, a Cessna or something hit a skyscraper, and people assumed it was that ll over again. The replays they showed of the first plane did little to reveal the scale. Not long after though, the second plane hit. I still remember vividly thing plane taking a bending arc into the tower, and then all the debris exploding out. The memory is almost hyper-real in my mind. At that point, everybody knew it wasn't an accident. The news, and everybody, thought maybe the first was a fluke.

They left the news on the entire day. My third period was honors English, and that's when the towers fell. The lunchroom was so weird. It was really quite that day, but you would hear people cry or some yell in anger punctuating the silence. I got home, and my dad was always a news junky. But I don't think he slept for a day and half. He sat in front of the TV all night. He was still there when I got up out of bed the next day.

I honestly don't remember much of that particular day(From my perspective, obviously the attack itself is significantly more memorable).

The only thing I really recall is coming home from school and being annoyed that my parents were watching the news, because I wanted to watch cartoons and "The news never has anything important in it".

Welp

To be fair, the news cycle was extremely slow in the months leading up to that day.
TBH, I actually remember thinking to myself, welp, at least the news will have some content now.
I always watched the new, ever since spending a lot of time with my grandparents in the 80's. I actually remember Chernobyl and Ryan White.

I was in Fort Knox, KY. Week 8 of Basic Combat Training, Warrior FTX. Some of the squad members were acting up, pissing off the DS's. Out of nowhere DS Knapp comes out screaming that the WTC was hit and they were going after the Pentagon. Majority of us were like, nah, he's just pissed and using that as a way to get us motivated. We asked Pvt Simmons, who was at CQ, and he confirmed what DS Knapp said.

My reaction was, "well, looks like training is over boys, we're goin to war"

needless to say, training didn't get interrupted.

I had the day off work. I turned on the radio as soon as I woke up and the first line I heard was, "this is the first attack on US soil since..." I literally thought we were being invaded, so I ran into the other room and turned on the tv just as the first tower collapsed.

I was in algebra getting ready to take a test. Teachers phone rang and he turned on the tv. As the day went on someone started spreading rumors that a nuclear plant nearby was attacked and all the students were freaking out.

Teachers had to have an assembly explaining to everyone what happened.

In 11th grade in either AP Science or Spanish (can't remember which). It felt surreal when they announced it, but I guess it didn't totally hit until next class where we watched it on tv. We did that for the rest of the day

Lunch time was really somber

I bizarrely remember my dad grilling hamburgers for dinner that night while we kept watching the news
