Richard Pryor, Bernie Mac, John Mulaney, Louis C.K. (cancelled), Tig Notaro, Mitch Hedberg, Eddie Izzard, Chris Rock (when not laundering racism). I thought Hannah Gadsby was pretty funny when she was trying to be funny.

Bill Burr amplifies the things I don't like about Pryor the most. The condescending, superior, ironic political tone is really hard to pull off because 9/10 times, people rely on political/cultural agreement to get laughs and forget to include the funny. It makes sense because it really really works for the people that agree with you, as you can see with the undying for Burr and Carlin among the misanthropic, "society has gone mad and doesn't care about the REAL issues" crowd. Carlin is even worse at that and Lewis Black made a whole career out of it.

It's the tone and lack of funny, relative to the adoration from people that agree that I take issue with, not the statements themselves.

That's funny, cause I can appreciate Carlin for how he broke ground in comedy, but whenever I hear him now, it just reminds me of stuff I said when I was a teenager to be edgy. He hasn't aged well.

I thought his last special was very weak, it was a lot of rambling and fishing for shock laughs imo. It was disappointing because the black and white special was fucking amazing. I hope this new one is good again.

Huge fan of his podcast and F is for family but this special was pretty weak. When he wasnt talking about political s*** he was hilarious ( the sex robots, his Christmas as a child) but everything else just fell flat

Yeah I feel the same way. Love listening to his podcast and hes had some great specials before, but this one was probably his worst.

Comedy just rarely ages well. That's the truth of it. Especially standup. So much of it springs from takes on contemporary culture, and from challenging contemporary norms. It's just a fact of life that jokes grow old.
