This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Rydia: That game is ancient, with its remake being like 10 y/o, and while Rydia has appeared in Dissidia (right? I think? IDK), I don't see her being strong. Only Cecil is worth anything from that game. However, since Cecil is worth something, High Fodder sounds right.

Indiana Jones: James Bond was gauged as a Low Midcarder, and I think that might even be low. Darth Vader is a High Midcarder. Indiana Jones, like those two, has major appeal to nerds everywhere, but his presence in video games hasn't been the same as those two. I say Low Midcarder, thinking that Bond was rated a bit too lowly.

Gundham Tanaka: Remember was I was saying about Persona characters being High Fodder? That was referring to recent games, mainly. No Danganronpa character is going to beat a Persona character. They have half the strength at best of Ace Attorney, in large part due to how few memes there are. Either you've played them or you haven't. Ergo, Low Fodder.

TJF is the one design-related eternal on GameFAQs, and as long as Rydia can rake that in with her match pictures, she's golden. Despite his tough record, Cecil is a Low Midcarder, and given what we've seen from Rydia, I think it's fair to say she's on the same level.

Indiana Jones: Agree with Low Midcarder. On the one hand, his series isn't nearly as popular as Star Wars. On the other hand, he's the undisputed face of the Indiana Jones franchise, more recognizable than any Star Wars character except Darth Vader, and he hasn't suffered from the controversies that have dragged down Luke and Han of late.

Gundham Tanaka: As tazzy's project proved, he's certainly well-liked among those who have played the Danganrompa series. That should be just enough to make him Low Fodder.

I think Rydia is Fodder Line. It has been a while since the DS remake, but Rydia has been in Dissidia and Cecil hasn't fallen off yet. She looked decent in CB9 despite losing to Alucard and a likely boosted Captain Falcon. And she does benefit from TJF.

Indy I will say Low Midcarder for - barely. He is still an iconic character as of today, but the Indiana Jones franchise has pretty much been dormant since the Lego games. And aside from the point-and-click Fate of Atlantis, there isn't really a standout Indy game.

Gundham is Low Fodder. Danganronpa is pretty niche and a character will need to somehow stand out to voters who haven't played the series to be better than low fodder.

I might be willing to go up to Fodder Line for Rydia, but I just don't see her advancing in this day and age unless it's a match against weaklings. I just don't.

I don't think FFIV of all things is relying much on recent relevance for strength. Could see her being fodder line though.
