Man was I wrong. My dogs tail hurts like hell if he's excited and hits you with it and his ears constantly have scabs on the tips from shaking his head

The only semi-decent argument I had towards clipping tails is that some breeds can get them snagged on something, or be so thin and delicate that they can break.

But even then, I'd imagine it would only apply to dogs intended to go into a service role of some kind.

Otherwise, leave the damn dog alone. Breeding might've fucked up some dogs up beyond all recognition, but they don't need parts of them clipped off too.

People don't clip their dogs nails? I mean i guess it depends on the breed and if they can manage it themselves, but my girlfriend's Chihuahua would need to get her nails clipped. It was actually hilarious because she would usually scratch a little at the door when she'd want to come in, but after getting clipped they wouldn't make any noise, so she would gently throw herself at the door instead. Dog's fucking nuts.

Yeah, particularly tail docking makes sense with more thickset breeds.

If owners want to have them done fine, if not that's ok. Docking is done when they are days old and cropping between 8-12 weeks. Docking is typically done on dogs that were traditional working/guarding breeds along with cropping to avoid broken tails, ripped ears, etc. Cropping also has the effect of keeping ear infections at bay, floppy ears is a man made trait because no wild canids (or wild mammal period) has floppy ears that cover the ear canal.

I'm more concerned about early spaying/neutering (which is way more invasive than cropping/docking) before the dog is physically mature, that has life long negative aftereffects.

I'm even more concerned about breeding dogs with bad structure contributing to early debilitating orthopedic disorders such as hip dysplasia, or dogs so brachycephalic that they can't run 15 yards without passing out. Or dogs that have heads so big they can't give birth naturally.

i can agree with that, otherwise should be left alone. boxers/rotty's and doberman look like normal dogs without alterations.

The ears definitely. I mean it sucks for me cause his ears will bleed and he'll shake blood all over the place, but he'll tilt his head towards the ear that's bleeding so it's obviously bothering him.

But the tail is for everyone else. No one wants to get slapped by a thick dog tail. He's a pitt boxer mix so there's not really any hair to soften it. And it hurts, it comparable to having a rope slapped across the back of your legs.

Clipping your dogs tail because "it stings when it hits me" is such a shit ass reason.
Any you know what helps bleeding sores on the ears? Dealing with pests (flies will bite at ears), and vaseline.
Snipping your dogs ears because you can't be assed to do preventative and after care? Fucking lazy.

He shakes his head, which causes lacerations on the tips of the ears. The tail is a serious problem around children. And it makes people not want to play with him. I could care less, he hasn't hit me in ages cause I know how to avoid it

It's easy to call someone lazy dealing with issues you dont have to

I've raised and trained dogs my entire life.
It's pure laziness, and physically mutilating your pet over minor inconveniences that can be easily handled.
And a dog waggin it's tail is no threat to a chile. Period. You're full of shit.

That's about as invasive as male circumcision. Puppies go right back to their usual play antics hours after ear crops. It's must less invasive than early spaying/neutering, something that can lead to health issues when done before physical maturity.

I can see being against ears because almost all the time it's vanity. Some have utility, but most do not.

But tails are a danger to the dog as well, as they can very easily break and cause a lot of pain. We have had boxers, and their docked tail does not bother them, I assure you. They get a local and it gets a snip snip and it's done.

Dew claw as well. Our boxers have theirs removed, and I it's an outright danger. We actually had a dog get his snagged in the carpet when I was a kid, panicked, ran, and broke his leg. It was horrible :(
