tullock 09/15/19 2:07:45 PM #1:	I posted around the beginning of the month that I had started working on an alternative to YouTube and in advance of the alpha release, I want to let people sign up for invitations if they're interested in joining. You can sign up here: https://imgtc.ws/icebay.php and you'll get an email to register as soon as the first public version is ready. Some of the biggest complaints I've seen regarding YouTube are how they treat content creators in regards to copyright infringement, monetization and so on. Plus, the fact that corporate entities have such a massive hold on the site. I want to put the emphasis back on individuals who produce their own content, not the media juggernauts. So if you're interested, sign up for the announcement email (I will announce here after the email, to give those folks first dibs). Not enough income to sustain the infrastructure is one of the main reasons, which is why I have to plan all that out ahead of launch. YouTube is wicked expensive to run because it encodes in multiple formats and sizes and stores them in multiple locations so every upload ultimately consumes lots of space. I'm trying to figure out how to avoid needing a dozen versions of every upload without sacrificing any usability. I'm going to stick with the host I have now, and then move into owning the hardware and renting space in a data center once it's launched and stable, hopefully that will cut down on expenses. If it's an educational video about sex, it'll have appropriate filters, same with violence/gore like you'd see in an R movie. Exactly. I'd like the growth to be just a little on the slow side in the beginning so the infrastructure isn't overwhelmed right away. Plus it cuts down on operating costs too.
