That's a tad extreme of an example, but I agree.

There are some exceptions, such as if bad news directly relates to a show's content in particular, but I strongly oppose throwing away work all because of who made it when it has nothing to do with the work in particular. See: Bill Cosby, Phil Spector, and as a much less severe example Rosanne as examples. I love Bill Cosby and Rosanne's work, and I'm sure Phil Spector left his mark on a ton of things I'm familiar with.

Note I'm not at all comparing Rosanne's racist comments with a rapist and murderer. She was just an example of someone affected by this kind of thing.

Id be lying if I said it didnt influence me in any way, because of fucking course it does! You cant read, say, The Fault in Our Stars as an outsider the same way youd read it if you knew the author behind the work, or what happened to make that book a reality. Thats not how people work.

Fuck, its difficult to even read Enders Game the same once you know of the authors politics because the book contradicts nearly everything the guy believes in IRL.

Eh kinda, it'll stand out to me, but I can still appreciate it. Even though some Kevin Spacey scenes end up being pretty awkward the man is still a phenomenal actor.

Now if they don't have talent, in addition to specific controversies, then yeah I'm just gonna staight up avoid their shit.

Nature being what? And I should note that a lot of actors, etc, whose work I dislike, I also come to find out that I don't like them when they're not acting, either.

Granted, other *roles* an actor has taken has soured me on them. I used to be a ScarJo fan (starting wtih Black Dahlia), but then her role as Black Widow in the MCU -- particularly the first Avengers film -- killed that for me.

smart maybe, but mature enough to be disgusted on their actions to invoke an emotional response on seeing them as a person through their character is another thing.

I feel that less mature. You should be able to understand that it's two different things. And maybe they made the movie, then later became a bad person. Then technically, when they made the movie, they were bad. Plus, it's usually not only one person in the movie. That would be like if someone from one of the MCU movies did something, so you'd want to stop watching all of them because of it. Or maybe all the ones they are in. You could, but I think it'd be more mature to not care about one actor so much, you'd stop watching a movie you like because they are in it. Especially sinec they are probably one out of many other characters.

But that's the only real example I have.

I stopped listening to Lostprophets after it turned out the lead singer was a horrific human being. Outside of that I can't think of any other examples.

The important thing for me is that if they're a disgustingly reprehensible failure as a human being, I'm not putting money in their pockets with my patronage.

Yeah, sometimes. It can be hard to avoid it all though since there are so many scumbags out in the open lol.

Tom Cruise is a pretty standard example. It's hard not to see anything he's in and not immediately start thinking about what an exploitative waste of skin he is.
